Lazy Scott Bearings
Never seemed fair to nail the "lazy" tag so permanently on the "Susans" but that probably has no "bearing" on the issue. Also called turntable bearings, they are the square, flat ball bearing devices YOU bolt between two flat objects to achieve rotation. Like that spinning center section of a Chinese restaurant table. We had these in surplus once and they were quite popular. To our chagrin, we discovered they could be bought commercially for the same price. So we did. The 4" version is rated for a 300lb. load, the 6" for 500lbs., and the 12" (round) for 1000lbs.

First Surface Mirrors
Optical imaging folk insist that their reflective surfaces be on top of the glass, because an optically minor “ghost” is created with back surface mirrors. These “First Surface” optical mirrors generally also have better glass and flatter surfaces than their household brethren. Delicate, with the fragile reflective surface exposed, they carry the prices that precision demands. If you are playing with lasers, photography or optical alignment, the first surface items below are what you need. Dimensions are included in the description as width x length x thickness, all in mm.

Right Angle Driver
Direct that power right where you want it. Inside the metal box are a couple of gears and shafts, what counts, though, is the way it lets you turn a shaft at a 90° angle, with no loss of power. 1/4" splined shaft couplings, male at one end and female at the other. 2" x 1-3/4" x 1" thick overall.

Or gear down-for the science fair or for any number of hobby projects. This hard-to-find set of (3) combination spur/beveled gears-for when you want gears set either straight or at 90° to one another-also has one small spur gear, plus three bushings. All in red, green, or blue plastic (we'll pick). The combo-beveled gears are 1-5/8", 1-1/4" and 27/32" dia with 3/16" bores to accept the bushings, which are 3/16" OD, 3/32" ID. The straight gear is 17/32" dia with a 1/16" half-bore. All are 24 pitch.

Add-A-Tread
And save someone's neck. This deeply textured safety tread is diamond-plate-pattern black rubber, 17" x 3-7/8" x 1/4" thick, with a peel-off self-adhesive back. It can be cut, but won't easily crack or tear. A great way to add traction to truck bumpers, RV steps, ladder steps, etc.

How Hot Is It?
Point this puppy at HVAC, industrial hygiene or other equipment, and find out. From Sper Scientific, this pen-type infrared thermometer has a range of -27°F to 428°F with 0.5° resolution, or -33°C to 220°C with 0.2° resolution. Accurate ± 2.5% or 2.5°C, whichever is greater. Pocket-clippable at 6" long x 1/2" dia, it also has a white LED with a latching push on/push off switch. Includes (1) "AAA" battery for the LED and (2) button cell batteries for the thermometer. A good-looking brushed steel and aluminum, it comes in a brushed steel case. Useful from the lab to the kitchen, and fun, CJ says, for adults of all ages.
